Lana Del Rey soothes fans with soulful vocals on Des Moines tour stop
Lana Del Rey rocked the Veterans Memorial Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center on Sunday night with soothing vocals.
The 34-year-old appeared in a floral and white, long-sleeved gown. Under red fluorescent lights, she introduced the first song of the night: the title track from her 2019 project "Norman Rockwell!" (with an extra profane word in the middle). Fans cheered as two backup singers graced the piano.
"Oh my goodness, thank you for this warm welcome," Del Rey said to fans. "It took us a long time for us to get here."
The show started an hour late, but Del Rey made up for it. Her stage setup was one of spirituality, sensuality and peacefulness. There was a green tree with dream catchers attached to it, a big piano, a screen projector that gave a black and white, old film appearance as she performed, and a wooden swing covered in flowers.
Moving gracefully across the stage, Del Rey performed "For Free," a Joni Mitchell cover. She then transitioned into "Born To Die" from her same-titled second album. Fans with their phones out rocked back and forth, singing along.
Del Rey picked the pace up with "Blue Jeans," bringing a level of soul to the performance as her background singers performed with tambourines.
After the track wrapped up, Del Rey took a moment to sign autographs and accept gifts from her fans. "I'm not going to turn down roses," she said to fans as she thanked them.
For the track, "Pretty When You Cry," Del Rey performed lying on the stage floor with her backup singers. The screen projector gave the illusion that the trio was performing on water.
She seemed to go with the flow, allowing her fans' song requests to decide what she was going to perform.
"Cinnamon Girl" followed with a harmonica playing in the background. Del Rey struggled a bit on her high note while singing "Shades of Cool," but she soon got back on track before touting several other tracks.
"I was a little late," Del Rey said to her fans. "We have one more song, and I hope to see you again."
